Good morning, Sammy! A giant wooden boat stands on the hill. It is called an ark!
Voorbeeldafbeelding
The kind old builder asks, “Rain is coming. Will you help the animals?” You nod: yes!
Voorbeeldafbeelding
You bring three things, Sammy: a lantern, a soft blanket, and a bag of seeds.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Stomp, stomp. Two elephants. Hop, hop. Two kangaroos. Waddle, waddle. Two penguins!
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Roar! Two lions. Hiss! Two snakes. Coo, coo... two little doves.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
One dove is very small. Bigger animals bump past. No one notices it hiding in a corner.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
You notice. You kneel down. “Hello, little one. I’m Sammy. You can stay with me.”
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Pitter, patter. The rain begins. The big door closes. THUD.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Pitter, patter becomes SPLISH, SPLASH! The ark rocks and rolls on the waves.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Thunder booms! The animals are scared. Even the lions hide their eyes.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Your tummy wobbles too, Sammy. You are small, and the storm is so big.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
But even a small light can help. Click! You light your lantern. A warm glow fills the ark.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
You sing a soft song: “Two by two, we’ll make it through.” The animals calm down.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
The little dove shivers. You wrap it in your soft blanket.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Day after day, it rains. You feed the animals. You sweep the hay.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
You feed the little dove seeds from your hand. Peck, peck. Little by little, it grows strong.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
One morning... the rain stops. Drip... drip... quiet.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
But all you see is water, water, water. Where is the land, Sammy?
Voorbeeldafbeelding
The kind old builder says, “Someone must fly and look for land.”
Voorbeeldafbeelding
The big birds are too tired. But the littlest dove hops onto your hand.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
“Small can do big things,” you whisper. “You can do it!” Whoosh! Away flies the little dove.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
You wait. And wait. And wait, Sammy... Look! A tiny speck in the sky!
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Flap, flap! The little dove is back, with a green leaf! Small, but so brave!
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Land is near! The animals cheer: moo, roar, quack, HOORAY, Sammy!
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Bump! The ark lands on a green hill. Two by two, the animals march out.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
A big rainbow stretches across the sky, a promise of sunshine and new beginnings.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Be kind to every creature, big or small. Sometimes the smallest friend brings the biggest hope.
Voorbeeldafbeelding
Two by two, we made it through. Goodnight, Sammy.
